View Available PackagesOsen Gard is an exquisite 3000-acre farm and country lodge in the beautiful province of Sunnfjord, on the west coast of Norway. The magical Osen River runs the last 3 km of its 27km course through the property and into the Fjord, giving you the first opportunity at the Atlantic Salmon entering the system. The season on this exceptional small Atlantic Salmon River runs from June until the end of August. Availability is limited as this lodge has historically been rented on an exclusive basis by anglers who have, with time, become part of the Osen family.
With a deep respect for nature and conservation, the lodge, river and surrounding wilderness are managed and cared for in detail, to provide a world class experience for all who visit.
The main lodge, known as ‘Fiskerhuset,’ is the original homestead, dating back to the late 1890s. Guests who stay here experience an authentic, countryside ambience that has preserved its historical charm.
This lodge spans three floors, with the first floor housing the living areas. In the dining area, a traditional long Viking table provides the ideal setting for anglers to enjoy world-class cuisine. The lounge area centres around an open fireplace, the perfect place for a nightcap and to share stories from the day’s adventures. Enjoy your morning coffee in the ‘old’ living room with black-and-white photographs showcasing the farm’s rich history.
The commitment to maintaining the lodge’s original style is evident in the owners’ decision to preserve the farm’s original layout. Lavatories, showers, and a sauna are discreetly located in separate cabins, detached from the main lodge, ensuring an authentic and unspoiled experience.
On the second floor, there are eight bedrooms that enjoy views out over the valley and the mountains that tower above the lodge.
Guests will travel to the town of Florø and will be met by a representative from the lodge. The road transfer takes approximately 35 minutes.
Getting to Florø:
By Air: Wideroe Airlines operates flights out of Bergen and Oslo to Florø on a regular basis
By Ferry: Guests also have the option to catch a ferry from Bergen. The ferry trip is approximately 4 hours and is a beautiful scenic journey through the Fjords of Norway
By Road: Osen Gard is a 5-hour drive north of Bergen on the West coast of Norway.
Osen Gard management will be on hand to advise on any travel requirements
We recommend 13-14ft double handed Spey rods with multi tip interchangeable lines. The Osen is a true spate river (relies on rain) and as such water conditions can vary greatly. With that in mind, a range of lines and sink rate tips are recommended.
Osen is not a large river, and 15ft rods are not necessary, however if that is what you are used to, you do not need to go out and buy a new rod.
Depending on water conditions one could be fishing anything from a straight floating line through to a floating head and very fast sinking tip.
Flies. Classic Tube flies and doubles. No trebles allowed.
Patterns that are popular include:
- Sunray Shadow, Blue Norseman, Green Highlander, Willie Gunn Tube & Pot Belly Pig variants. Then in doubles, size 6, common patterns are Willie Gunn Cascade, and Kinermony Killer. All in all though, general salmon patterns will work.
Flies from the shop/guides will be for your own account, and any rod breakages will be charged at standard repair rates.
There is a small tackle shop on site as well with the essentials such as extra lines, tips, flies, tippet and some general gear.
Should you wish to bring a lighter rod, a 5 or 6wt can be fun fishing for trout in the lakes and rivers.
Rates vary on the week/period available from $4500 – $9000 for one rod for one week. Once you select ‘BOOK NOW’ you will see exact rates based on availability.
Included:
All accommodations (single room), meals (3 daily), guided fishing (2 guides for 8 rods) and non-alcoholic beverages. Loaner equipment.
Excluded:
International & Domestic travel and transfers to the lodge. Alcohol. Staff gratuities.
